Mwili wa aliyekuwa Mbunge wa Viti Maalum (Chadema), Leticia Nyerere aliyefariki dunia wiki iliyopita nchini Marekani umewasili leo jijini Dar es Salaam. Marehemu Leticia alifariki dunia akiwa Maryland nchini Marekani alikokuwa akipatiwa matibabu. Kabla ya mauti kumkuta, alijiunga na CCM mwaka jana baada ya kutofautiana na viongozi wa Chadema. Historia fupi ya marehemu Leticia Alizaliwa mwaka 1959, Kwimba mkoani Mwanza na kusoma katika Shule ya Msingi Mnazi Mmoja kati ya mwaka 1966 hadi 1973. CUF to stage demonstrations in Pemba

  The opposition Civic United Front (CUF) in Pemba yesterday said it intends to conduct peaceful demonstration to back the report issued by the party’s Secretary General Seif Sharrif Hamad earlier this week condemning nullification of the Isle’s General Election results.   The announcement was made by CUF secretary for Chakechake district Salehe Nassor Juma at a meeting with contestants for House of Representatives seats, district chairpersons and secretaries and members of the party’s national leadership council in Pemba.   Juma said they have already submitted a letter to Chakechake Officer Commanding District (OCD) informing him that the demonstration is to be held this Sunday and will start from Chanjani and proceed to Kibirizi.   He said the peaceful demonstrations are to show support for the report delivered by their Secretary General and what he described as ‘Sharrif’s efforts to fight for the democratic right of Zanzibaris.’ ...

CUF wants Magufuli intervention in isles

Addressing the media in Dar es Salaam shortly, Maalim Seif ruled out the participation of his party (CUF) to the anticipated re-election insisting that there was no evidence of irregularities of the previous elections that prompted nullification by the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) Chairman, Jecha Salum Jecha. Maalim Seif was the presidential candidate of CUF during October 25, 2015 elections. He expressed confidence on the ability of President Magufuli to unlock the talks leading to amicable resolve of the matter. CCM insists that the election will be repeated while CUF insists otherwise.

  Education, Science, Technology and Vocational Training Minister, Professor Joyce Ndalichako, issued the directive in Dar es Salaam when she visited the NECTA offices for a familiarisation tour. She gave the ultimatum as she was not convinced by the response given by the council’s Executive Secretary, Dr Charles Msonde, on the change in the grading system for Form Four and Form Six results, effective 2014 when the results were graded in GPAs instead of in divisions. Prof Ndalichako, who had served as NECTA Executive Secretary for nine years, said she has been receiving numerous complaints on the grading system since becoming minister, “hence the need for professional answers on what prompted the move’’.   The case will come before Principal Resident Magistrate, Respicius Mwijage of the Kisutu Resident Magistrates’ court in Dar es Salaam. Earlier, State Attorney, Estazia Wilson had informed the court that the case had come up for hearing but the prosecution’s intended witness was on leave. Magistrate Mwijage expressed his disappointment regarding the fact that the prosecution had not availed alternative witnesses to cover the position of the one who was absent. “I dislike situations whereby people come up with this kind of excuse when hearing is supposed to be in good progress,” said the Magistrate. He urged the prosecutor to avail two or more witnesses on the specified dates for the hearing and cautioned them that he was going to issue a ruling if otherwise. Tax collection hits new record

  TRA acting Commissioner General, Alphayo Kidata, said today they have collected 1.4tri/- last month compared to July-November average of 900bn/-. The acting CG attributed the good performance to proper strategies put in place , among other things, seal loop-holes for tax evasion. Mr Kidata said between July and December last year, TRA collected 6.4tr/- against a target of 6.6tr/- for five months to December 2015, showing that the overall performance was below target. Previous, the Minister for Finance and Planning, Dr Phillip Mpango, said they target to collect 1.3tri/- in December and hitting on expanding tax base. The revenue collection, according to Bank of Tanzania(BoT), have shown an increasing trend since September 2015, when domestic revenue amounted to 1.16tri/-, which was 86.9 per cent of the target. Domestic revenue collected by the central government was 1.12tri/-, which was 87.3 per cent of the target.

Dar hits record high as temperatures go soaring in Africa

  This observation by the ‘Daily News’ established that the climate in East Africa’s fastest growing city has soared to an all time high from Friday when the temperature reached 34 degrees centigrade. Other cities in the continent where temperatures have peaked their most high this time are Luanda in Angola (30-310C) and Khartoum in Sudan with the average of 26 to 310C, contrary to cities to the north of Africa that are near to the Sahara Desert where temperatures are between 17- 260C. The weekly weather forecast for some cities in northern Africa countries effective January 1 shows that the temperature in Cairo, Egypt, ranges between 17.7 and 230C; Casablanca and Marrakesh in Morocco (18-250C) and Algiers in Algeria (18- 210C).   Initially, the tournament was supposed to get underway yesterday but the local organizing committee extended the kick-off of the annual tournament by 24 hours to pave way for Mainland giants Simba to honour their Vodacom Premier League (VPL) match against Ndanda FC at the Nangwanda Sijaona Stadium in Mtwara on Friday.
